End-to-end Argument in Internet Architecture

Abstract: This paper discusses the design principle of Internet architecture, analyzes and summarizes the guiding role played by end-to-end argument in today’s Internet architecture forming process, and explains the conflicts between the current complex application requirements and this argument from multiple perspectives. Finally, the end-to-end argument is re-examined and some recommendations are proposed.
